How old do I have to be to take Bakersfield drivers education?

You have to be 15 years old. We recommend that you start closer to when you are 15 ½ due to you are unable to take the written DMV permit test until you are 15 1/2. If you take the class too soon you may forget some material before you take the test.

What do I need to be able to take my DMV written test?

First of all, as of January 1, 2004, the minimum age at which a minor may obtain his of her permit changed from 15 to 15 ½ years old, and completed the drivers ed (classroom) portion and receive the certificate of completion. They will next need to be enrolled in Behind the Wheel Training and receive the Drivers Training certificate. They take both certificates along with an original birth document to the DMV and take the written test for their permit.

If you are over 17 1/2 you will not need any driving school issued certificates. As with all drivers license applicants you will need to pay a $31 DMV fee, submit a birth document proving your legal presence in the USA, present your social security card, and fill out the appropriate forms. Your parents must also fill out a Parental Consent Form. You will need to hold your permit until you are 18 to take the drive test and get your license.

If you are over 18, you must do as all persons over 17 1/2 with the exception of submitting the Parental Consent Form and waiting 6 months.

No matter your current condition, our well trained instructors will teach you in as few hours as possible while focusing on our number one goal: to make you a safe, and accident free driver. After your first lesson we will be able to determine how long it will take to accomplish this.
